So, as in years past, our amazing first responders and partners in education, Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center, held a powerful demonstration of what bad decisions could look like. Special thanks to several AHS student groups that helped with this special day and our buddies who lent guidance, encouragement, and high fives! THE RESULTS ARE IN: Seven Bartow County high school students earn coveted seats in the prestigious Georgia Governor’s Honors Program at Georgia Southern University June 16 – July 13, and two alternates are named. Once again, that sets a record in Bartow County! Congratulations to Adairsville High School juniors Lilith Affolder (Science), Gabriel Greenway (Engineering: Mechanical & Electrical), Skyla Rowland (Visual Arts), and Braden Mathis (World Languages: Spanish); Cass High School junior Damaya Norwood (Music: French Horn) and sophomore Josue Granados (Music: Flute); Woodland High School junior Talal Tariq (Mathematics). The alternates are CHS sophomores Charlotte Langhans (Music: Flute) and Emma Brown (Music: Oboe). “Congratulations to each of our finalists and alternates on a job well-done,” said GHP Coordinator Paula Camp. “Admission into this elite program is no easy task. It is a yearlong, rigorous process, and I am excited to see a record number of finalists selected this year! These talented students have demonstrated exceptional abilities and dedication, and their participation in GHP is a testament to their excellence. This mature group of students will, without a doubt, leave a mark on this program, as well as Bartow County and beyond.” GHP is a summer residential program designed to provide intellectually gifted and artistically talented sophomores and juniors new and challenging educational opportunities. More than 1,500 semifinalists from across Georgia participated in state interviews this year and approximately 700 students were named finalists. The program remains fully funded by the Georgia General Assembly.

THEN & NOW: Woodland's own Caleb Henson, now a sophomore wrestler at Virginia Tech, secured the NCAA Wrestling National Championship in the 149-pound weight class! We caught up with Caleb's former Woodland High School Wrestling Coach, Adrian Tramutola, to find out how Caleb's days as a Wildcat helped shape him into the athlete he is today! "Caleb was obviously a huge part of our success as a team. He was very driven, disciplined, and focused on achieving the goals he set for himself. He was a four-time state finalist and three-time state champion, losing only one match his entire career to a kid he beat the weekend before. The loss his freshman year did more for him than any win during his career, in my opinion. It made him focus on the little things in the sport that make the biggest differences. He was an incredible teammate and an excellent student in the classroom. By the time he finished his high school career, he was the number one ranked wrestler in the country and had won every major tournament at the high school level! - Coach T
